In The Pink - Iconic Florida

This pink home takes centre stage at Naples Beach.

Many US states have a varied history when it comes to decor aesthetic, however none quite as distinct as Florida with its exotic and tropical colour blends. Florida style is special and in particular the use of “Florida pink” to connote that familiar old Florida charm. Specifically, we are talking about Benjamin Moore 1320 the precise match for Florida pink. Having its own pantone as part of the Classic Colour Collection proves just how timeless and loved this hue of rosy goodness really is!

From the pink background homes of many an evocative Slim Aarons photo to the chic Palm Beach outfits of old world glam, Florida pink has laid its foundation within the halls of both traditional and modern styles and continues to glow in current decorating and fashion trends. Pink brings to life the tropical laidback feeling that Florida connotes and hearkens back to Spanish and Mediterranean influences that have long dotted the Florida horizon making it one of the more distinct go-to colour palettes in the state. It’s amazing how the colour pink suddenly feels so grown up and sophisticated when layered into fabrics and onto wallpapers. The relation to flamingos and sunsets has secured pink its own place within the styles and trends that Florida homes have long adhered to. From city ordinances to purposeful decorating decisions, pink is respected and used with reckless abandon by many Florida designers and tastemakers. Often paired with its close cousin a sea foam mint green, Florida pink takes up residence in everything from shutters to entire exterior home colour palettes. The forgiveness and quirky personality that pink as a colour exudes, means that many a façade tempts the eye to linger awhile longer to enjoy its soft and relaxed vibe.

Perhaps because it can reflect the hot Florida sun and keep an interior cooler, pink has been a classic choice or perhaps because it’s simply hard to resist the allure of such a statement colour. Florida pink has certainly maintained its place in the hearts and paint swatches of Floridians. The retro shade of Florida pink has long adorned historical Florida structures, for one the famous Don CeSar at St. Pete Beach known as the “Pink Palace.” The Don CeSar has a long and storied history leading to its current 277 hotel room status but one thing has remained constant, it has always been pink and its bold style commands every sunset from within its Florida west coast radius. The Boca Raton club is another iconic Florida monument that found itself ensconced in pink. The famous 100-room inn was originally the vision of architect Addison Mizner realized in 1928. In 1944 after World War II, J Myer Schine purchased the hotel and swathed it in pink. In 2021 it was officially renamed The Boca Raton and has since been given a coat of coastal white. However, the 1969-built tower remains pink to this day. Florida pink has long been a part of the architectural gold standard that makes up Florida’s elegant and timeless historical vernacular.

Make no mistake the power of Florida pink has earned its stripes and pays homage to the all year-round summer. The pink paradise that is Florida, continues to seduce us with shades of sunset pink pigmentation to the extravagant retro shades of its gorgeous historical structures reminiscent of an era that gifted us pink in perpetuity.
